Dave Dhillon

Percussionist

In the 1950's, Dave Dhillon was inspired during the Harry Belafonte Calypso craze. It was also a time when beatniks in coffee houses recited their poetry and played bongo drums.  Dave began playing at beach parties and working with the Theater Arts Guild productions in Hollywood.  His friends included Latino musicians who played in dance clubs around the L.A. area such as the Zenda Ballroom and Virginia's. These venues often featured touring bands like Rene Touzet, Joe Loco and Tito Puente.

Dave moved to San Diego in 1960 and has performed all over San Diego County. He also plays Greek and Turkish music and still continues to perform with many local belly dancers.  He feels that the bongos and Latin music, however, will always be his  first love.
