Carlos Tarrac ha sido docente de español y otras asignaturas por más de dos décadas en escuelas públicas de California. Ha escrito, traducido e ilustrado libros, tanto de narrativa como de poesía para niños y adultos. Sus poemas han sido publicados en algunas antologías en España, México y Estados Unidos.

Carlos Tarrac has been a teacher of Spanish and other subjects in the California Public Schools for over twenty years. He has written, translated and illustrated books (narrative and poetry) for children and adults. El célebre escultor Ángel Tarrac, también conocido como Ángel Tarrach Barrabia, destacó por su trayectoria artística en España Francia y México. Se consagró como retratista y difundió por más de seis décadas su prolífica obra monumental de carácter público tanto a través de concursos como por encargos gubernamentales, incorporando después en sus esculturas un estilo abstracto. Aunque el artista nació en España, país del que tuvo que exiliarse por motivos personales y políticos al final de la guerra civil, eligió México como su nación adoptiva en 1942, la cual le brindó una segunda patria donde desarrolló su vocación artística. A pesar de que nunca regresó a España y residió en México hasta su fallecimiento en 1979, siempre sintió un amor profundo por ambos países. Su hijo, Carlos Tarrac, nos presenta en este libro información sobre la vida y obra del escultor dentro de un entorno histórico y cultural, que incluye su interacción con colegas y otras personas. Su propósito es que el legado artístico de su padre perdure a través del tiempo y trascienda a las presentes y futuras generaciones alrededor del mundo. Al final se incluye un apéndice que contiene una traducción al inglés con la intención de hacer más accesible este trabajo a los lectores de habla inglesa. Fotografías en blanco y negro. The renowned sculptor Ángel Tarrac, also known as Ángel Tarrach Barrabia, stood out for his artistic career in Spain, France, and Mexico. He established himself as a skilled portraitist and spread his prolific public monumental work for more than six decades through competitions and government commissions. Later in his career, he incorporated an abstract style in his sculptures. Although the artist was born in Spain, a country from which he was exiled for personal and political reasons at the end of the civil war, he chose Mexico in 1942 as his adoptive nation where he advanced his artistic vocation. While he never returned to Spain and resided in Mexico until his death in 1979, he always felt a deep love for both countries. In this book, Ángel’s son, Carlos Tarrac, presents information about the life and work of the sculptor within a historical and cultural context including his interactions with colleagues and other people. He intends that the artistic legacy of his father endures the test of time and that it is shared with current and future generations around the world. The appendix includes an English translation to make this work accessible to a broader audience. Photographs are black and white. Partial artistic nudity in some sculptures, viewer discretion is advised. Prologue: Dr. Montserrat Galí. |
